How monitoring works

A hub at the pump house, nodes in the woods, everything on your phone

Sap Spy is three pieces of hardware and one app. Start with one hub and grow a mainline at a time; nothing you buy first is wasted later.

Sensor Hub

Sensor Hub

The all-in-one for your main collection point. Vacuum, tank level and temperature every five minutes. Cellular, with the SIM already activated for the US and Canada, or Wi-Fi where you have it. A rechargeable battery that lasts two to four weeks, topped up by USB, a solar panel or a 12 V battery. Text alerts to up to three phones.

Sensor Hub, $825

Gateway

Gateway

The long-range, low-power link between your sensor nodes and the cloud. Wi-Fi, Ethernet or cellular back-haul; 110 V, PoE or solar power. One gateway covers a large woods; add more gateways for more ground.

Gateway, from $695

Universal Sensor Node

Universal Sensor Node

Three ports, any combination of vacuum, tank level, water meter or pressure sensors. Put one at the end of each mainline and the app shows you which line dropped, so you walk to the leak instead of looking for it.

Universal Sensor Node, $300

How it works

Up and running the day it arrives

How it works, in detail
  1. 1

Place a hub or gateway at the pump house

Vacuum, tank level and temperature from day one. It arrives with the SIM activated. Turn it on.

  2. 2

Add nodes where you want eyes

End of each mainline, each releaser, the sugarhouse tank. Three sensors per node, any mix.

  3. 3

    Watch it on your phone

Live readings, a timeline you drag through the season, and a text or push alert the moment a line drops.
